Police Say Same Man Could Be Responsible for Sexual Assault, Indecent Exposure in the Haight
| Masturbating man |
On April 16 at about 2:15 p.m., a man followed a woman from Haight and Stanyan streets for several blocks. The woman had crossed the street back and forth, trying to lose him.
He continued to follow her, lingering about 15 to 20 feet behind, according to police. The woman lost sight of him for a few minutes -- then he reappeared.
She saw him again near the intersection of Stanyan and Frederick streets. Police said he was masturbating as he stared at her.
The woman bolted.

About 20 minutes later, another woman was sexually assaulted three blocks away. In that incident, she was entering her apartment on the 300 block of Carl Street when a man followed her into the lobby and grabbed her from behind.
The man started sexually assaulting her, but she kicked him multiple times until he ran off. He was also described as a white man, in his mid-twenties, weighing about 180 pounds. He had short, straight light-brown hair and light stubble or a goatee.
Police believe the two incidents are related. Anyone with information should contact the SFPD at (415) 553-0123.
