Help!
Images of the earthquake that devastated eastern Japan on Friday still haunt us; the death toll is rising by the day, and threats of a nuclear meltdown lingers.

Naturally, San Franciscans are flooding organizations with phone calls, curious about where and how they can help victims in Japan.

Well here is one way. The Japanese Cultural and Community Center of Northern California has stepped up and started a relief fund for the earthquake victims, taking cash and check donations now.

"We all want to do something but at times can feel helpless watching the television and the Internet trying to absorb all the devastation and destruction," the group said in a statement today.

All donations will go toward citizen relief efforts -- food, water, clothing, blankets, and shelter supplies. No fees will be taken out of the donations, which will be funneled to victims through the National YMCA of Japan.

In 1995, the Center raised more than $600,000 for relief efforts after The Great Hanshin Awaji earthquake hit Japan, killing more than 6,000 people and leaving 300,000 homeless.
