Obama to Make Another Trip to S.F. -- Where the Money Is
| California ... where hope awaits Obama |
White House officials told the Chronicle today that the president's trip is to focus on "plans to strengthen our economy and win the future.''And of course, he is coming here to shake the money tree.
"Why did Willie Sutton rob banks?" Bill Whalen, research fellow with the Hoover Institution, asks rhetorically. "As he famously said, because that's where the money is."
| We don't need Sutton's Law to tell us that the Bay Area is a safe place for Obama |
But Obama -- who has taken some political beatings within his own party over health care reform and Bush tax extensions -- probably considers the Bay Area a safe place for politicking.
Although he has overwhelming support from democrats in the Bay Area, Obama has steered clear of downtown San Francisco, also known as Nancy Pelosi territory.
"I don't know that he wants to be seen that rooted in progressive politics," Whalen told SF Weekly. "There is such thing as the angry left and maybe they don't want him publicly protested in Pelosi land."
Or perhaps Obama knows the best way to win votes is to not create a traffic jam in downtown at peak commute hours.
