John Avalos Wants a Little More Excitement from David Chiu
| John Avalos has a question: why is question time so lame? |
Needless to say, Supervisor John Avalos was deflated --but not surprised --last night by Supervisor David Chiu's watered down proposal for question time.
In the latest example of "is Chiu progressive or moderate?" the board president -- who is running for mayor -- put forward a proposal that allows the mayor to view the questions he or she will be asked a week beforehand.
So much for spontaneity.
This kind of proposal is what Avalos was referring to yesterday when he told SF Weekly that it's hard to gauge where Chiu really stands on issues -- and that makes him uneasy.
''I think the voters were looking for something a little more spontaneous,'' Avalos said during the Tuesday board meeting.
Avalos convinced his colleagues to hold off on approving Chiu's version, buying him some time to sit down with Mayor Ed Lee and come up with a less restrained proposal that won't result in canned answers penned by underlings during "question time."
