Pedaling, but not for politics
Maybe it's the last thing you could imagine doing -- spending one-on-one time with your city supervisors. Imagine lunching with Supervisor Malia Cohen (what would you talk about?), or taking a trip to the Academy of Sciences with the perennially overwhelmed Supervisor Eric Mar.

Even more bizarre -- consider pedaling through San Francisco in tandem with Supervisor David Chiu.

But hey, it's for charity so why not? If there is any good time to set aside your political differences, it's now.

The Board of Supervisors is asking people to join them and the Japanese Consulate, General Hiroshi Inomata, at a benefit tonight where they hope to rake in lots and lots of cash for tsunami victims in Japan.

While most supervisors donated their time -- and maybe a nice lunch or an outing to the zoo --  Supervisor Jane Kim really upped the ante with her contribution of $3,000-plus in prizes. They include Giants tickets (the luxury boxes), burning man passes, and VIP tickets to Outside Lands.

All the proceeds will go to help the victims in Japan which is still on a high nuclear alert after a 8.9 earthquake and a massive tsunami hit the eastern part of the country nearly two weeks ago.

The National Police Agency in Japan recently reported nearly 10,000 residents dead, 13,786 missing, and 2,722 injured. Some 100,000 children are now homeless.

"U.S. charitable giving for Japan is unprecedentedly low," Kim said. "As San Franciscans, we intimately know the risk of natural disaster. Japan needs our support, and our offices have been overwhelmed and touched by the outpouring of contributions."

If you can't imagine spending time with your supes, donate here.
