Giants Reality TV Show, 'The Franchise,' Coming to Showtime

READ OUR RECAP OF THE FIRST EPISODE OF THE FRANCHISE.

In its brief existence as a genre, reality television has jumped the shark so many times, and in so many different ways, that they're scarcely worth mentioning. (Okay, okay: Our personal favorite was "The Littlest Groom," which aired only twice before Fox pulled the plug.) But if ever there was a group of human beings worthy of having their everyday lives recorded and edited into a semblance of "reality," it's the San Francisco Giants' championship team.

Don't get too excited: Nobody was prescient enough to actually follow the Giants during their remarkable 2010 season. Instead, "The Franchise: A Season with the San Francisco Giants" follows the team during the off-season after their historic World Series win.

The series will air this summer, with a preview scheduled on Showtime April 13.

You can check out a trailer for the series above. It looks like some highlights include Sergio Romo getting locked in Brian Wilson's car; a fishing expedition with Bruce Bochy; and a firsthand view of Andres Torres' barefoot, bare-chested workout routine.

No word yet on whether cameo appearances by some of Wilson's more famous associates -- namely, The Machine and Charlie Sheen -- are in the offing.

Actually, Peter,

I called the Giants' season from Spring Training through the World Series and predicted they'd win all along. Your buddy, Tim Redmond over at the Guardian actually put money on them in Vegas before the regular season began. Think he won $500 or so.

Rookie of the year in the NL this year is Brandon Belt.
