Just in time
A few hours after a massive derailment that shut down BART service in parts of the East Bay yesterday, separate mechanical issues set off new delays this morning.

Officials are now reporting 15-minute delays on the trains after mechanical problems between the Embarcadero and Montgomery stations.

All trains east of Pleasant Hill are finally operating -- and on time.

"We do not anticipate having any issues where we had the derailment yesterday," said Linton Johnson, BART spokesman.

At about 9:20 a.m. on Sunday, two BART cars derailed as the train departed the Concord station bound for San Francisco. More than 60 people were evacuated, of whom three people were reportedly taken to San Francisco General Hospital with minor back pain.

There was no service all day yesterday between the Pleasant Hill and Pittsburg/Bay Point stations while BART officials worked to get the cars back on track. By 4 a.m. Monday the last car was re-railed and service resumed as normal.

But then who knows what Muni has in store for its passengers today.
