San Francisco Snow: Kamikaze Trip Down Lombard Promised

For real?
The saga of possible snowfall in San Francisco is getting to be the most cloying "Will it or won't it?" story not involving questions of whether the city will enact an anti-circumcision resolution.

But, apart from the sheer novelty of the white stuff hitting the ground in something other than a Chris Daly allegation against Gavin Newsom, there's another reason to pray for snow. Local press agent Lee Houskeeper has pledged that, should sufficient snow grace our fair city, he will ride a sled down Lombard Street. Yes, the curvy part.

Houskeeper tells SF Weekly that he hasn't decided whether to hit the slope while riding a plastic garbage pail lid or a proper sled -- though he predicted one would be as good as the other by the time he finished his kamikaze plunge.

He also pledged to take a passenger with him -- the Maltese Falcon, currently housed at John's Grill. (Careful with the black bird, Houskeeper. As Kasper Gutman noted, "If you lose a son, it's possible to get another. There's only one Maltese Falcon.").
