Loves to be hated
If there is anything former Supervisor Chris Daly is good at, it's getting people to hate him. He's even better at making those acrimonious relationships work in his favor.

Proving that politics is forever personal, UA Local 38 business manager Larry Mazzola Sr. has asked union members to boycott Daly's Buck Tavern bar, located at 1655 Market St. Mazzola and Daly's rocky relationship culminated at a Board of Supervisors meeting in January 2009 when Daly and his progressive allies kept Mazzola's son from being appointed to the Golden Gate Bridge,Highway, and Transportation District Board of Directors.

Mazzola fired off a letter to union supporters urging them to boycott Daly's bar, claiming Daly has not been a friend to unions in the past.

The former supervisor turned bar owner tells reporters that he is damn proud about the labor leader's call to boycott his business. Not only that, he believes it will help boost his bottom line. In fact, he posted the boycott letter in his bar.

"Business is gangbusters," Daly tells the Ex. "The boycott, I think, is bringing me extra business."

Only time will tell whether Mazzola or Daly has more influences over the labor community at large.
