Examiner's Phil Anschutz Dumps Money into California Politics -- Except San Francisco

No money for you, chumps.
San Francisco Examiner owner Phil Anschutz, his companies, and his employees, donated $92,582 to 30 California politicians between 2003 and 2009, according to campaign finance filings compiled by Anschutz's competitor, Bay Area News Group.

But the railroad, telecommunications, sports, and media baron hasn't been as generous with politicians in his newspaper's home town of San Francisco. Politicians here haven't received a dime from him or his associates.

Most of the political donations have been spread throughout Southern California, where AEG, the company formerly known as Anschutz Entertainment Group, is lobbying to build a football stadium in downtown Los Angeles.

According to the LA Times:

As top executives from Anschutz's firm roamed the Capitol to lobby for their project this week and a who's who of power brokers in sports, business, labor and politics announced their backing for it in Los Angeles, dozens of activist groups were mobilizing against the billionaire builder, pressing legislators not to exempt AEG from provisions of the state's environmental quality act.
According to a tally by Bay Area News Group's Josh Richman, the lobbying blitz was proceeded by three years of campaign donations to California politicians -- ones who don't reside in San Francisco.
