Newsom Already Back in San Francisco, Speaks at America's Cup Event
| Back Again |
To his credit, Newsom did start out sitting in the audience at the America's Cup press event this morning, but it wasn't long before he was on the podium with the mic in front of him. Mayor Ed Lee, who was appointed by Newsom to finish out his last year as mayor, interrupted himself, calling Newsom onto the stage to say a few words.
"It's great being in back," Newsom said.
But in all seriousness, San Francisco was just a short stop on his way to San Diego, where Newsom is getting down to business as lieutenant governor. Newsom is starting a statewide listening tour on education, meeting with students, teachers, and administrators from college campuses across California to hear their gripes about the higher education system.
Newsom's first stop: UC San Diego.
"He will gather their input and then share it with the UC Board of Regents," says Francisco Castillo, Newsom's spokesman.
After that, who knows which town he will hit next, but Newsom says he plans on talking to residents in parts of the state where he hasn't put in much face time.
