Giants Fans to Fly Banner Over Dodgers Stadium

A group of self-described diabolical Giants fans are plotting to fund a huge banner that will fly over the LA Dodgers stadium during the first three games of the Major Baseball League season, starting March 31.

The group -- called the Faithful Supporters of the World Champion San Francisco Giants -- is tapping all fans to help raise money to fly a banner three miles above the Chavez Ravine stadium where the Dodgers play. The banner will read "Giants 2010 Champs: Beat LA," and fly over the stadium for the Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday games for an hour and 20 minutes.

"It is a great way to pay tribute to the World Champion San Francisco Giants while giving the other organization a taste of what it's like to be World Champions: something they haven't tasted since 1988," the group says on its Web site.

The group is asking for pledges to help pay for the team-spirited banner -- and members are already 52 percent toward their goal of $8,000.

"In this hostile environment, The World Champion San Francisco Giants will need the support of the World Champion San Francisco Giants Faithful," the Web site says.

SF Weekly's sister paper in Los Angeles is taking it hard. LA Weekly confirmed that the Dodgers stadium is a hostile environment, saying "damn right, wussies."

I’m totally against this! It’s an unnecessary, bush league, classless case of poor sportsmanship that could backfire by pumping up the Dodgers and their fans. We will look like asses if we are getting beat while that thing is flying around.

The comments by Dodgers fans truly show how little they care about their team anymore. You see, Giants fans are actually loyal fans willing to go to the lengths needed to stick it to their rivals down South. LA on the other hand, well you don't even show up to your games. It was purely pathetic to watch the Giants-Dodgers series in LA last season and to see all the empty seats throughout the ballgame (not just between the 3rd and 7th). Your loyalty and respect has become so low that the administrator of DodgerBlues.com doesn't even care to update the site anymore. If this action is needed to renew your interest in the rivalry, well let's rumble.

Completely inappropriate for SF. We have class here and we don't rub the face of the defeated into their loss. Best of luck to the Dodgers and every other team in Major League baseball in defeating us this year. Vegas has us at something like 18-1?
