Ed Lee Picked As Interim Mayor

While away in Hong Kong, Lee has been the center of media attention and political discussion since Tuesday when his name emerged as the leading candidate for interim mayor. The progressives on the Board of Supervisors had been pushing for Sheriff Michael Hennessey to take the position until it became clear he didn't have the six votes needed.
On Friday, the board finally voted 10-1 supporting Lee as interim mayor. Supervisor Chris Daly was the lone dissenter.
The decision is nonbinding and must be approved by the new Board of Supervisors, who will be sworn in on Saturday at noon.
"Despite all the wonderful references to Donkey Kong, we have engaged in a orderly transition of leadership," said Supervisor David Chiu.
