Theresa Sparks Honored For Election To Board of Supervisors. Problem: She Wasn't.

Ms. Sparks, we've got some news for you...
Theresa Sparks will not be a San Francisco supervisor. Yet she has been named one of the year's top politicos for winning a seat on the Board of Supervisors. Say what?

Along with Alameda County Superior Court Judge Victoria Kolakowski, Sparks is named as one of The Advocate's 2010 "Newsmakers of the Year." But while Kolakowski did squeak out her race in the East Bay, Sparks came a distant third in the District 6 supervisorial race; she was not "elected to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors" as The Advocate advocates.

Sparks hasn't yet returned our calls. Hopefully The Advocate's honor won't be rescinded.

Just one problem...

But if the newspaper is looking for a reason to fete Sparks, there is this: She is, all but certainly, the first transgender politician to be pilloried as a member of the "downtown" moneyed elite. Theresa Sparks -- transgender former CEO of a sex toy company -- was the "establishment" candidate.

That sounds like a "newsmaker" to us.
