Theresa Sparks Honored For Election To Board of Supervisors. Problem: She Wasn't.

• Thank you so much for pointing out to me the error made by the Advocate. I had not seen it before your blog. Following is my response to the Advocate. I read in a local blog that the Advocate named me as a 2010 Newsmaker of the Year. Although I am greatly honored to have been selected, I must ask that you print a retraction. I was not elected to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, regrettably I lost my election. It was a difficult race and, because of my more moderate social views and a strong business background, I was labeled as the "downtown candidate" and a "conservative". I love San Francisco for its values and positions on such issues as discrimination, immigration reform, inclusion, universal health care, homelessness and transgender equality. Local politics here is a bloodsport, not for the faint of heart, and sometimes the truth falls victim to political rhetoric. Victoria Kolakowsi though did win convincingly in her history-making election as an Alameda County Superior Court Judge and deserves to be honored by the Advocate. She is a true hero to the community and I am proud to call her a friend.

• She should get with the times and change her name to "Theresa FourLoko"
