Phillip Trettin, Accused Bank Robber, Caught With 'Bag of Cash' In Hand

Woody Allen's seminal movie on bank robbery, readers may recall, was titled Take the Money and Run. It's a decent bet Phillip Trettin never saw that film. He's charged with taking the money. But he forgot to run.

The accused bank robber apparently made a very leisurely getaway. Right as he was exiting a bank on the 4600 block of Mission last week, a policeman called to the scene was walking in. The 50-year-old Trettin matched the description of the man witnesses saw pull off a bank heist. But what really gave him away was the "bag of cash" dangling in his hand.

Finding himself face to face with a cop and holding a bag of money, Trettin opted to give the money and not run. He surrendered without incident.

He is currently incarcerated at San Francisco County Jail and facing one count of robbery and one count of burglary. It remains to be seen if this case, like Trettin's allegedly purloined money, is in the bag.
