Jennifer Roback Morse, Gay Marriage Foe, Redefining Definition of 'Rainbow'

You call that a rainbow?

​In a futile attempt to reclaim something that was never hers in the first place, Jennifer Roback Morse, a staunch opponent of same-sex marriage, has declared herself a rainbow warrior.

The traditional marriage advocate told the website OneNewsNow.com that straight couples are the "real rainbow coalition. The gay lobby does not own the rainbow." What' s more, she wore a rainbow scarf to the recent Prop. 8 trial at the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco to "signify that supporters of traditional marriage still own the symbol."

Where to begin? First of all, it will come as news to Jesse Jackson that his organization isn't the "real" Rainbow Coalition. Of all the organizations that have chosen to label themselves the "Rainbow Coalition," by the way, none seem to be concerned with marriage. If straight married couples jealous of that privilege had ownership of the rainbow symbol, they failed to register it in writing.

Finally, as the photographer of the art accompanying this story aptly points out, Morse's scarf isn't even a rainbow.

LGBT activist and journalist Matt Baume speculates that Morse wore such a scarf to distract the public from an outfit he described as harking to "a fast-food worker's uniform." We see where he's going, but feel it'd be a missed opportunity to not use the term "babyshit yellow" to describe that top. But we digress.

In any event, we wish Morse the best of luck "making marriage cool," as is her raison d'être, regardless of how the judges eventually rule.
