Fired Santa John Toomey Takes Lefty O'Doul's Gig -- Doubles Salary
| John Toomey has a new address. And it's not the North Pole. |
Toomey, 68, has accepted the job he yesterday told SF Weekly he was leaning toward taking -- a gig at restaurant and lounge Lefty O'Doul's, which he said would double his Macy's salary. Toomey will take a seat at the Union Square establishment at 5 p.m. on Friday as part of the effort to aid the Christmas Eve Fire Fighters Toy Program.
The once and future Santa didn't rule out toiling for Macy's in the future -- but didn't seem thrilled with the prospect.
"I think they should stew for a while," he says. "They fired me without cause and have yet to speak to me." Actually, the store has yet to speak with anyone, calling the firing a personnel matter.
In addition to doubling his salary, Toomey told SF Weekly the Lefty O'Doul's gig was an offer he couldn't refuse.
"They're willing to pay me well," he said. "And, I guess, free drinks, all the food I can eat, and all the breaks I want."
And they won't fire you for telling a slightly off-color joke to grown adults.
