'Fake Jean Quan' Has Very Real Picture

Accio Twitter, Jean!
Whether it was the persistently plum attire, the trunkload of parking tickets -- or that whole knocking off Don Perata thing -- you knew Jean Quan wasn't a garden variety politician.

Here's one more thing: While most politicians send their Twitter accounts into semiretirement after a successful election, Quan went on a 140-character bonanza. In the 15 days after officially becoming Oakland's mayor-elect, she tweeted 544 times -- 36 a day.

The bizarre online behavior spurred the creation of a satirical "Fake Jean Quan" account. But while this unknown faux Quan is not the genuine article, its photo of real Jean Quan bedecked in a hat too camp even for Albus Dumbledore is just that.

Quan's spokeswoman, Sue Piper, said the photo was likely from a Halloween party or event at Chabot Space & Science Center.

Good guess. But the person or persons behind "@Fake Jean Quan" note it is, rather, a candid snapshot from the "Children's Fairyland Gala in Oakland ... annual costume party."

Fair enough. Quan had told SF Weekly she was hoping to obtain clothing crafted by local designers. For all we know, this magical chapeau was conjured up in good old Oakland.
