Change We Can Believe In: Laundromat Thief Takes $250 in Quarters
| Have you seen this coin and 999 others like it? |
Last week, police were called to a laundromat on the 1600 Block of Valencia. The proprietor said a burglar had broken in, pried open the washers' coin boxes, and jangled off with some $250 in quarters.
How easy is it to tote around $250 in quarters? We're glad you asked.
Earlier this year, a like-minded criminal ripped off a local laundromat to the tune of $350 in quarters. So we've got our weights and measures handy.
$250 in quarters, naturally, comes out to 1,000 coins. And since each quarter weighs two-tenths of an ounce, 1,000 of them come to 200 ounces. At 16 ounces to the pound, that's just 12.5 pounds -- easily light enough to stow in a knapsack, plastic bag, or even a bucket.
Once again, it appears a laundromat thief has gotten away clean.
