"Dead in the water" isn't a term one often hears in reference to a train, but it did come up this morning with regard to Caltrain.

A southbound train broke down in Menlo Park, forcing its passengers to stumble off and hop the train behind it, says Caltrain spokeswoman Christine Dunn. The switchover and the single-tracking have resulted in some delays for those heading south.

But you're also likely going to be late if you're heading toward the city, too.

Dunn says a couple of commuter trains have been "pulled into a siding" as express trains head by them, resulting in delays of 10 minutes or more.

Good thing Caltrain allows riders to eat and drink all they want on board.
