World Series: Are San Franciscans Too Drunk to Vote?
| Now recite the alphabet backwards, and ... GO GIANTS! |
But this isn't just any Tuesday. It's election day. Are San Franciscans too drunk to vote?
The answer: Perhaps!
Department of Elections head John Arntz and spokeswoman Rachel Gosiengfiao said it appears to be a relatively normal off-year election crowd at City Hall -- but they're not yet getting a read on how many folks are headed to polling places citywide. And they may not until later today.
"It was quiet at 7 o'clock in the morning in City Hall," said Gosiengfiao. "But it began picking up around 8. And I think it will pick up again around lunchtime."
By the way, can you be reeling drunk and still have shards of that Muni bus you smashed up shaking out of your hair and still gain admittance to election headquarters or a polling place? As Tim Lincecum would say, fuck yeah.
"We will not turn voters away. They can vote," confirms Gosiengfiao. "But obstructing other voters and polling place clerks or inspectors will result in the police being contacted. Or, here at City Hall, we do have the sheriffs."
Got that? Vuvuzelas are not okay. But pungent remnants of yesterday, bloodshot eyes, and an unsteady gait do not impede you from participating in the democratic process.
