San Rafael's In Defense of Animals -- which we last touched base with when they offered a reward to catch whomever decapitated goats in San Jose -- has once again made it both fun and profitable to bust animal abusers.

The group pledged $2,500 toward the arrest and conviction of whomever killed Monday, the Palace of Fine Arts' mute swan.

The majestic bird was discovered dead on Nov. 13. The area was littered with discarded beer bottles and a subsequent necropsy revealed the swan died of a broken neck.

Anyone who knows anything -- and wants that money -- is urged to contact San Francisco Animal Care Control Captain Vicky Guldbech at (415) 554-6364. For information about how to contribute to the reward fund, please call (415) 554-9413.

The goat-killers, incidentally, remain at large.
