Spate of Pepper Spray Robberies Throughout San Francisco

​Five different robberies via pepper spray have been reported to police over a two-day period. That, to put it bluntly, is a lot of robbing and pepper-spraying.

The first recent "robbery w/Caustic Chemical" to crop up on the San Francisco Police Department's radar took place Wednesday in the 200 block of Florida at a shade before 9 p.m.

Two black men of undetermined age pepper-sprayed a 41-year-old woman, made off with her cell phone, and kicked her to boot.

At 10:37 p.m. in the 700 block of Page Two twentysomething black men jumped out of a 1993 Saturn, pepper-sprayed a 26-year-old man, and purloined his wallet, backpack, and iPod.

Capping off the evening, at 11:35 p.m. a 40-year-old black man at Pine and Larkin sprayed a 29-year-old woman and made off with the contents of her purse.

Yesterday, two more sprayings were reported. At 9:40 p.m. at Bush and Scott four black men of undetermined age took the purse, cell phone, and cold hard cash of a 28-year-old woman they sprayed in the eyes. Ten minutes later at Filbert and Pierce, a 45-year-old woman was sprayed, smacked over the head, and relieved of her purse and credit cards by two black twentysomethings.

Police are unsure at this time if this spate of sprayings and muggings are related.
