Jean Quan, Oakland's Mayor-Elect, Has Car Booted

This boot has a message Jean Quan couldn't disagree with

​Earlier this month, Oakland Mayor-elect Jean Quan confirmed to SF Weekly that she isn't wearing the same purple suit everywhere. Rather, she has three or four purple suits. "Plum purple is my color," she told us.

Today, the San Francisco Chronicle reported that Quan has another pastime to go along with wearing purple about town: Not paying parking tickets. Quan's Toyota Prius -- not purple but silver, by the way -- was booted earlier this week. She had more than $1,000 in unpaid tickets. Yes, you could get several purple suits for that.

Quan refused to talk to the Chron about the matter. On the contrary, when SF Weekly broke the story that San Francisco Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi had his car booted last year, he was able to joke about the situation. 

"I'm doing my part to support the [Municipal Transportation Agency] budget," deadpanned Mirkarimi, who admitted he'd let "some tickets pile up." In San Francisco, you need to fall at least five tickets behind before the boot comes out.

Sadly, 'The Boot' doesn't come in purple to match Jean Quan's ensemble...

​Unlike Quan, Mirkarimi also had an excuse. He claimed he'd been hit with several tickets for parking in his own designated City Hall spot. In at least one instance, Mirkarimi claimed parking control officers didn't see the pass on the dashboard of his 1993 Jeep ragtop; that pass, he adds, was subsequently stolen out of his car -- leading to more tickets.

Also, plum purple is not Ross' color.
