Recycling Robbery Turns Violent

Ha! The mother lode.
One man's trash is another man's treasure -- and, over the weekend, one man's recycling became another man's swag.

A 36-year-old Hispanic man at the corner of Valencia and Mission found himself at the wrong end of a kitchen knife Saturday night. But the blade-wielding assailant didn't ask for money or jewels or service animals -- but the victim's "bag of recyclables." And this he got.

The victim, purloined of his cans and bottles, high-tailed it across the street to a pay phone (to answer the pressing question "Where's a pay phone when you need one?" The answer is: Mission and Valencia).

He summoned the police, who quickly tracked down the 43-year-old accused thief toting his ill-gotten bag of recyclables.

No word yet on whether the two men knew each other -- or if the cops were easily able to track down the alleged robber as he was weighed down with recyclables.

Also no word on whether the victim has yet gotten back his purloined cans and bottles.
