Muni Beefs Up Service For Giants NLCS Game

Aficionados of Dirty Harry movies can gleefully point to spots near AT&T Park as the climax of the motorcycle-vs. tremendous blue car chase scene in Magnum Force.

But the completion of Pacific Bell Park in 2000 changed everything. Now there are two reasons to visit Mission Bay in the middle of a weekday: Attempting to kill maverick cops who oppose police death squads and attending a Giants game. A neighborhood's got to know its limitations.

Expect a barrage of people doing the latter tomorrow for a 1:15 first pitch vs. Philadelphia in Game 3 of the National League Championship Series. Muni is -- and the transit agency is augmenting Mission Bay-bound transit.

Muni spokesman Paul Rose noted that two extra N-Judah trains will be pressed into service, as well as six additional buses ready to be pressed into service in the event of any subterranean delays.

Muni on Monday experienced a signal problem that led to a lengthy morning delay in the Metro tunnel. Were that to occur tomorrow early afternoon, it'd lead to legions of orange-clad fans roaming angrily through the streets. Is Muni taking any special care to go over its machinery and work the kinks out?

"We do that every day," notes Rose.

Gulp. That statement hits Muni riders just like the following affects Giants fans: "Now batting for San Francisco, Mike Fontenot."

Perhaps Cody Ross can be brought in to overlook the system?
