The San Francisco Medical Examiner's office moments ago identified the man killed yesterday by a 44-O'Shaughnessy bus: Derek Allen, just 22 years old.

The bus hit and ran over Allen and his bicycle at a shade before 5 p.m. on Thursday at Sixth and Clement. Allen was pronounced dead on the scene. As the photo below documents, a tow truck was required to lift the bus off of the cyclist and his road bike.

Police held white plastic sheets in place to shield Allen's body from the eyes of the gathered onlookers.

Following Muni's standard operating procedure, the driver of the bus will be suspended during the course of an investigation into the fatal accident.
