Nyjer Morgan, S.F. Native, Triggers Massive Baseball Brawl (Video)
| Nyjer Morgan does San Francisco proud... |
After a pitch from the Florida Marlins' Chris Volstad sailed well behind Morgan's back, he charged the mound, landed a glancing blow across the pitcher's cheek, and was then absolutely hammered from the blindside by a flying clothesline from Florida first baseman Gaby Sanchez. Fightin' and a-cussin' between the Marlins and Washington Nationals ensued. To top it off, Morgan probably didn't make any friends at the league office by behaving like a professional wrestler as he left the field.
It's been a rough couple of weeks for Morgan. He's currently appealing a seven-game suspension for an August incident in which he deliberately beaned a fan with a thrown ball. He was later admonished by Nats manager Jim Riggleman as "unprofessional" after he collided with St. Louis Cardinals catcher Bryan Anderson -- and missed home plate. "He went after the catcher," said the manager. "So I certainly don't condone that, but we've all made mistakes. I think that's not Nyjer's style of play to do something like that. That's totally uncharacteristic."
One day before yesterday's brawl, Morgan separated Marlins catcher Brett Hayes' shoulder during a 10th-inning collision at the plate.
In any event, way to represent the hometown, sir. Opposing pitchers will think twice before throwing behind a San Franciscan in the future.
