'Green Groupon' Launched By San Francisco Yoga Instructors

Leave it to two yoga instructors to launch what we'll call the Groupon of Green -- it's actually called Green Box Top -- a group deal website featuring only sustainable products and services in San Francisco. Surely, the Mayor and Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi have already signed up.
You know websites like Groupon or TownHog, which leverage the buying power of the internet masses in order to offer deep discounts on everything from massages to Conservatory of Flowers tickets to Mission Minis bite-size cupcakes (like Townhog's deal today).
Well, San Francisco yogis Lynn Roulo and Michelle Yorn launched their version last month, which offers a percentage of the profits to a nonprofit "aligned with our green goals." The current beneficiary is the Environmental Defense Fund.
"We had used other group buying companies to promote our yoga studio and subsequently signed up for their daily deals," Roulo wrote on the website. "Michelle and I were frustrated that only about one in ten deals were interesting to us -- we didn't care about discounted Botox or teeth whitening. We thought, 'What if there were a site that just offered socially and environmentally conscious deals?' That's when we came up with Green Box Top."
The current deal features $89 worth of food from Three Potato Four, a business that drops off organic, vegetarian dinner entrees, for $44.50. For now, the deals are only for San Francisco, but the co-founders announced an expansion to greater California and Colorado in the near future.
