Giants Offense Goes Berserk, Team Back in First

Uribe's the Juan
We've finally found an apt metaphor for the San Francisco Giants' offense (or lack thereof). The Giants score runs like a snake eats.

The team's run total for the past dozen games: 1, 0, 6, 0, 2, 10, 0, 1, 9, 1, 0, 13. That baker's dozen came yesterday in a barrage at Chicago, vaulting the team back into first place in the National League West.

The everlasting highlight of yesterday's 19-hit attack was a nine-run second inning, featuring a two-run homer and grand slam from Juan Uribe and two hits from the pitcher, Madison Bumgarner. Well, you don't see that every day.

Nine games remain for San Francisco, starting with a three-game showdown with third-place Colorado in Denver tonight. A successful series could essentially push the streaky Rockies' out of the postseason. The Giants then finish with six home contests vs. Arizona and neck-in-neck rivals San Diego. Be still my beating heart.

Finally, your humble narrator's prediction the Giants would score 37 runs over their final 11 games is looking a bit quaint after yesterday's 13-run outburst. But no team has ever more aptly demonstrated the ancient baseball axiom that you can't apply today's runs toward tomorrow's game.
