San Francisco Cracks Top-10 DUI Cities
| No, they're in here |
In fact, four California cities were among the "honorees": No. 1 San Diego; No. 2 San Jose; No. 7 Los Angeles; and No. 8 San Francisco.
That being said, the methodology for the Insurance.com rankings was not exactly reminiscent of a Swiss watch. The insurance-provider simply calculated what percentage of its applicants in the nation's 20 biggest cities reported having a DUI. Not exactly peer-reviewed.
But, still, it offers food for thought: Why would transit-friendly San Francisco be on this list? A glance at the nine other cities among the dubious Top-10 isn't exactly a who's who of glorious public transportation systems. Is it possible that our destination city hosts throngs of people who've been convicted of DUIs elsewhere? Those are the kinds of questions this bare-bones "analysis" can't begin to answer.
Finally, Insurance.com offers a section titled "A Brief History of Drunk Driving." We'll go one further: In the beginning, there was drunk. This begat drunk walking, which begat drunk running, which begat drunk horse-, camel-, and yak-riding. Drunk kayaking begat drunk boating, which led to the establishment of drunken fishing. Drunk wagon-riding begat drunk stagecoach-driving, which led to drunk horseless carriage-riding. And, in the end, drunk driving was created -- and, lo, it was bad.
