Barbara Boxer Aide Marcus Stanley Busted for Pot
"Marcus Stanley is no longer with this office," Boxer's communication director Zachary Coile said via a statement. "He submitted his resignation and Sen. Boxer accepted it because his actions yesterday were wrong and unacceptable."
With Boxer embroiled in a tight race with Republican challenger Carly Fiorina, news of an adviser carrying what U.S. Capitol Police described as a "green leafy substance that tested positive for marijuana" into Senate offices is all she needs.
Stanley has been on Boxer's staff since January of 2009. Prior to that he was a senior adviser to the -- ahem -- Joint Economic Committee and an associate professor of economics at Case Western University.
While this is poorly timed for Boxer, Stanley is far from the only person busted for alleged pot possession at the Capitol. More than a dozen people have been caught carrying suspected marijuana into House and Senate office buildings over the past year and a half.
Both Boxer and Fiorina, incidentally, oppose Prop. 19 -- which would tax and regulate marijuana in California.
