Armed Men Suspected in Five-Robbery Spree

​A pair of young Hispanic men are suspected of pulling off five armed robberies late last night and early this morning.

The first came on Webster and Sacramento at 9:40 p.m. when two men in their early 20s flashed a black semiautomatic pistol with a chrome handle at a pair of victims and cleaned them out. Then, at 11:05 p.m., two men of similar description used a similar gun to rob a man of his cell phone and bluetooth headset at Van Ness and Beach.

A scant 23 minutes later in the 100 block of Laguna Street, two Hispanic men aged 20 to 22 used a "silver glock" to rob a man of his wallet and gym bags (which the police report notes contained his "knee pads").

But the night wasn't over. At 12:30 a.m. at Divisadero and Franklin, a 28-year-old man was robbed by two Hispanic males aged 20 to 23 who intimated they had a gun (this location may be an error on the police report, as Divisadero and Franklin do not meet. It is possible that Fulton was the street in question). He lost $150, his debit card, and his Social Security card. And, finally, one more man was ripped off by the suspects, this time at 1:20 a.m. in the 1000 block of Sanchez.

The men, who both fled on foot and may have hopped into an unseen car, remain at large. Calls to the San Francisco Police Department for more information have not yet been returned.

Update, 1 p.m.: Sergeant Troy Dangerfield tells SF Weekly that investigators at first believed that two groups of robbers might be involved: the pair who flashed the gun and the pair who intimated they were holding a gun within their sweat shirts. But the SFPD now believes all five of these robberies were the work of the same two men.

Citing the ongoing investigation, Dangerfield declined to elaborate on what "information" led police to this conclusion. He did, however, note that many of the victims were engrossed with their phones or other electronic devices, and didn't hear the assailants approaching them from behind. Flaunting high-tech gadgetry, he says, "is akin to waving around a $100 bill."
