• After having been on a lot of dating sites (and I even own one). I agree, this practice is annoying. The fact is that adult dating sites are mostly about 10-1 men. Instead of doing the hard work of building a balanced audience, these sites basically resort to scamming. I'm glad someone is doing something about it. Fiction is fiction. Fantasy is fantasy. This is just deceptive.

• I have to say that POF has come through for me SEVERAL times and I am happy although I have been 'hit up' a couple of times from obviously fake 'suggestions' of who I should contact. Not anything like what I experienced on "True" site where I constantly got messages from fake profiles encouraging me to "pay" so I can read their messages. I think that is probably the biggest give away is when they are attaching their contact with you and right away you get hit with an offer to subscribe to read their messages. True did this all the time although if you read the 'from' source you see that it is a True associate sending the message.

• Right, they did what they had to do. File a class-action lawsuit was the way. There are many fraudulent websites that make money out of nothing, fake mails... It is illegal and is called scam, as soon as money is put in the action. I'm not like LJMoore, but in some way he (she?) is right.

• PlentyOfFish is not fake, I use it all the time and have exchanged several numbers (read, more than 5 dozen) all local numbers, and met at least a dozen of them. I prefer OKCupid though... it just looks more professional. Those of you that can't get people to message you back, maybe you should grow a personality, or hit the gym. Seriously, evaluate yourselves before complaining that sites are fake.

• I'll keep this brief since I'm not sure whether you're using Akismet as they have taken a liking to blocking me universally. Unfortunately there are many irreputable dating sites out that pull a fast one on consumers using such trickery, especially when you are on free trial. This is in order to get you excited and hopefully get you to become a paid member sooner.

• All the major dating sites do this; AdultFriendFinder, PlentyOfFish and Match.com are all guilty of this scheme. Actually, that last one may be filled with what smells like fake profiles, but those dames are just sexually-repressed stuck-up cunts too good for any piece of dick not attached to that pole-smoker-doctor on Gray's Anatomy.

• exactly.. ewhoring has been going on for years. Never seen the actual dating site use these tactics, but i've seen marketers use these all the time.
