Treasure Island Festivities Stiffed by Chris Daly

Chris Daly voted for Gavin Newsom -- but won't join him today on Treasure Island
​Today there'll be speechifying and handshakes and saluting and, perhaps, even cake as Treasure Island is officially handed over by the Navy to the city of San Francisco.

There won't be Chris Daly, however. Treasure Island is part of Daly's District 6, but the supervisor wrote SF Weekly that he has no plans on attending today's festivities.


A staffer in Daly's office noted that "of course Chris was invited," and said a scheduling conflict prevented the supervisor from making today's date. When asked what Daly was doing instead, however, the staffer discovered that the day is open on Daly's calendar.

E-mails to Daly querying why he's skipping today's fairly momentous announcement received a terse response: "We're on Board recess."

True enough. The Supes next meet on Sept. 7. Presumably, Daly will be there.
