Treasure Island Festivities Stiffed by Chris Daly

• Joe, You're right of course. I was just using this little tussle to get in my own views on Treasure Island. Daly hasn't a clue what's happening there. He's always just pretty much rubber-stamped Gavin's giveaway. Same with the TransBay Terminal project and every giant condo project from Rincon Hill to Trinity Towers. He's backed them all and I've opposed them all. I use my blog and the hospitality of sites like yours to get my point across. Sometimes I lie. Go Giants! h.

• What's the matter, Supervisor? You don't like the Weekly's headline? Are they being mean to an elected official? You seem to be good at dishing it out, but when you're on the receiving end, you cry foul.

• Chris was plainly out in Vacaville, where his family lives. Wait -- what?

• I guess the headline of the article should've been "Treasure Island Festivities not attended by Chris Daly, who is on 'Board Recess.'"

• H. -- You're presupposing that's why Daly didn't attend. According to him, he's on Board recess. JE

• Joe, 12 pages? I did the above in 2 short paragraphs. I submit that you left out the information for 2 reasons. First, you didn't know it. Second, it would have provided a reasonable explanation as to why Daly is disdainful of celebrating the perversion of the project. The 'ethical lapse' here is yours and it's journalistic. As L.M. Boyd said long ago: "The definition of telling a 'lie' is withholding all or part of the truth from someone who has a right to know it.'" Your readers had a right to know all of the crap about Darius Anderson and Platinum Advisers and Bill Clinton. You chose not to tell it to them. That makes your piece a 'lie'. Still like you but your journalistic standards are often pretty low. h.

• Your headline states that I "stiffed" today's event. Sensational? Yes. Accurate? No. An accurate headline would be "Treasure Island Event Held During Board Recess," or "Supervisor on Board Recess, Not Attending Treasure Island Event." Not as sexy but accurate. Also, not very newsworthy, in my opinion.

• Chris -- You were invited to the event. Your staffer said you had a "conflict." When pressed on the matter, your calendar revealed you didn't. And then when I asked you, point blank why you weren't going, you simply said "We're on Board recess." Had you chosen to offer the real -- and perhaps very valid -- reason you're not attending, I would have printed that. Why don't you point out the ethical lapse here for me? JE

• H. -- God bless ya', you really do believe that every story requires a 12-page synopsis of how we got to this point before we pick things up where they are. I'm well aware of the machinations behind Treasure Island. If Chris Daly wants to explain why he's skipping out on today's ceremony, he can. Otherwise, he's just on Board recess. Best, JE

• Bad writing Joe, No back story whatever. Like the fact that the Island (like all former military bases) is supposed to be used first to alleviate any local homeless problem (legally, it's the law) and instead of moving the SRO population to the Island (about the right size for us) Newsom decided to hand development rights of the Island over to Darius Anderson who was his top fund raiser in 2003. Anderson never built a tree house in his life. ??? You missed Bill Clinton's role here. You did know he has one right? Ron Burkle (sp?) the So. CA. developer who pays Bill a million a year to be on his board has Clinton as a partner in the new yacht harbor. I can see why Chris is disgusted.
