Philip DiMartino Found Stabbed To Death In Lower Haight Apartment

The San Francisco Medical Examiner's office moments ago identified the man found yesterday stabbed multiple times in his Lower Haight Apartment: Philip DiMartino, a 36-year-old white male.

A co-worker of DiMartino's who had gone to check in the 100 block of Hermann up on him saw the 36-year-old's prone body through a window. The case is being investigated as a homicide, but hasn't yet been declared as one.

DiMartino's multiple stab wounds, intuitively, are a sign of a likely homicide. But that's not as certain as one would think.

Should DiMartino's death declared a homicide, he would be the city's 29th of the year and first since homeless man Joseph Swim was stabbed to death in Buena Vista Park a week ago. Swim's drinking buddy, Michael Little, is charged in that homicide; he has pleaded not guilty.

DiMartino was a senior marketer at Archstone, a San Francisco apartment and property management company. His colleagues at work released the following statement: Phil was more than an incredibly talented professional. He was a friend and member of the Archstone family. We are shocked and saddened by Phil's passing. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Phil's family.

Phil and I were buddies at UVA. I hadn't thought about him in a few years, but a few weeks ago, I dreamed about him. Its been on my mind, so I google searched him... Now I know... I'm so sorry to hear this tragic news about someone I dearly loved. A great friend and roommate during some of the best years in my life. Is there *ANY* update to this other than it could be a Hispanic male who cut his hand? The homicides continue in SF and there are no answers-- publicly, at least. We are approaching TWO WEEKS without any peep in the news.

without any offense to Phil's family and loved ones: Phil frequented the sites Manhunt and Adam4Adam. I saw him there often and recognize his pictures on the crime flyers from his profile pics on these sites. He was often online on these hook-up sites. I bet the perpetrator was someone he met on one of these sites and the email correspondence within his accounts on one of these sites contains evidence. convince the police to gain access to his accounts!!
I'm so very sorry to hear this tragic news! My condolences to the family! I worked with Phil for a few years and always loved his sense of humor and his friendly ways. He will be missed by all!

Phil was the best brother in the world. He was ALWAYS there for me and my family when we needed him. The wonderful, fun times and laughter over the last 36 years will be with me forever. I love you so much.
I've met Phil a couple of times in the Castro of San Franscisco. He was a friendly, fun in a outgoing sense. I will miss seeing him, crossing paths especially at the club, "Badlands." This is definitely shocking, disturbing news, I just can't believe it. I've never met someone who's life has ended especially homicide. My prayers go out to him.
Also, my heart goes out to the DiMartino family. It is clear Phil had many people that loved him dearly, and it is really difficult to read the comments from those lamenting his death.

Having closely followed the Hugues de la Plaza case, I am disturbed at the similarities in coverage this case is receiving in the media. After Hugues' murder the story was buried. It took the pleadings of friends and family--in particular the strong voice of Hugues' former girlfriend, Melissa Nix-- before the media finally jumped on board. Only then did SFPD appear to respond to the valid concerns that friends and family raised. Too much time had passed before this happened, however, and Hugues' stabbing murder just seven blocks away remains a mystery. We need to hold our public officials accountable, and we need the news media to help us do that. It's been about a week. What is the update?
To Phil's family; Phil was a friend to everyone, he had the best smile and infectious laugh and a giggle you couldnt resist. We had these epic conversations a few years back and there wasnt any topic that was off limits, he was funny, sage, droll and a hoot. He will be missed, please accept my condolances on your profound loss.

Phil lit up a room with his smile. I can't believe that this beautiful light was extinguished so early. What a tremendous loss. The only comfort I have is knowing I have another guardian angel watching over me and it's my nephew Phil.

I cannot imagine anybody wanting to do harm to this man. Phillip was a fun loving generous person who did not deserve to end his young life this early. Him and his family are in my prayers.
