Paul Shin Devine, Apple Manager, Arrested For Allegedly Leaking Company Secrets
| Paul Shin Devine is, allegedly, one bad apple |
Paul Shin Devine, a mid-level manager at Apple, was arrested on Friday on charges he pocketed more than $1 million in kickbacks from multiple Asian suppliers of iPhone and iPod parts in exchange for spilling company secrets.
Devine, 37, of Sunnyvale was named along with Singapore's Andrew Ang in a 23-count federal grand jury indictment for money laundering, wire fraud, and kickbacks.
FBI and IRS investigators accuse Devine of leaking confidential information to suppliers, including Ang. Those secrets enabled the companies to negotiate better contracts with the Bay Area software giant. Devine was purportedly rewarded with kickbacks, which were split with Ang and, perhaps, others.
Devine -- who will appear before a judge at 1:30 p.m. today at district court in San Jose -- has also been named in a civil suit by Apple charging he was the recipient of upwards of $1 million in "payments, kickbacks and bribes" over the past few years.
