Michael Ponder Beaten to Death: Homicide No. 34

The San Francisco Medical Examiner's office has identified the homeless man found beaten to death Saturday morning near Kezar Stadium as Michael Ponder.

The 53-year-old succumbed to his wounds was discovered at 7:30 a.m. in Golden Gate Park.

He is the city's 34th homicide victim of the year and first since Raymond Twine, Hashim Kamau and Steven Garrett were gunned down in a 24-hour period on Aug. 19 and 20.
