Unharmed in yesterday's air emergency at SFO...
An explosion that punched a hole in an engine on a Qantas passenger jet forced the 747 to curtail a journey to the land down under after only 45 minutes, and return to San Francisco International Airport shortly before 1 a.m. this morning.

The plane landed without incident after the loss of one of its four engines. Video and photos taken afterward revealed a massive rupture along the outside of the affected engine.

None of the 212 Sydney-bound passengers aboard Flight 74 were injured. The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the cause of the explosion.
