Transbay Terminal's Last Tour Today Won't Mention Homeless Hordes

• Glad there are a few fans here who refuse to see it merely as the homeless shelter it has become. Please visit blog.timothypflueger.com for an homage and add some comments of your own. I hope to get decent photos from the tour, and I bet there will be more than 15 people.

• I just took one of the tours. I got the last few photos I'll ever get of it, and I can not beleive they are going to tear it down. From a structrual stand point, it held up after the e/q in 1989---so why tear it down? It smelled very clean, and was well lit too. So that's not possible everyday? It's alomst likes it's spent years on ice and they thawed it out just for today. Shame.

• Not so benign neglect, Miss Harrell, I'm one who has always thought the building to be a gem on the level of the Art Deco post office a few blocks over. The City stopped changing light bulbs and cleaning the place years ago. Then they evicted all of the businesses (used to be a great bar there with live music) and moved in the homeless to make the place look uninviting. The whole idea was to have people accept it without question when they announced it had to go in favor of a far inferior structure. They did the same thing with the classical Western clay tile roofed museum in Golden Gate Park which became Dede's aircraft carrier. Tried to do it with the Veterans Building and on an on. Check the place out Ashley. You'll never see better craftsmanship on benches than are in that building. Same with tons of other features. It's one hell of a building. We should have refurbished this building and kept it. Had the High Speed Rail trains come in at 4th and Townsend where you'd have half a chance of getting curb space to pick up passengers. Imagine what the traffic gonna be like at that new building with the trains added and a couple of thousand foot tall condo towers and a host of 400-500 foot buildings all within a block of it. h.
