San Francisco's Most Senseless Murders

Your Bamm-Bamm or your life...
With a conviction in the "Bamm-Bamm Bling" murder trial yesterday, Charles "Cheese" Heard surges toward the top of the list -- the list of miscreants responsible for the city's most senseless murders. In this case, Heard was found guilty of killing Richard Barrett so as to rob the man of a bejeweled pendant resembling the aforementioned Flintstones character.

There's rarely an outstanding reason to pull off a homicide. But sometimes the value of a human life is pushed very low indeed:

  • Giants fan Timothy Griffith, 21, slapped his hand on the car he was walking past, apparently still excited after witnessing Barry Bonds' 700th home run in 2004. The owner of that car, Rafael Cuevas, responded by stabbing Griffith to death. Cuevas' precious vehicle, by the way, was a white 1997 Toyota Corolla.

  • In June of 1997, Helen Menicou, then the manager of the Pinecrest Restaurant, told chef Hashem Zayed he couldn't oblige a pretty female customer by making her the off-the-menu item of poached eggs. It didn't seem to be a big deal -- until Zayed showed up at work the next day and shot Menicou -- his co-worker for 20 years -- to death.
