Pro-Johannes Mehserle Rally Still On For Today

Johannes Mehserle's fan club will rally in Walnut Creek today
​Despite legions of Bay Area residents' simultaneously thinking "this will end poorly," the mysterious organizers of today's pro-Johannes Mehserle rally in Walnut Creek are still moving full speed ahead. Demonstrators are scheduled to rally today at 2 p.m.in favor of the former BART police officer convicted of involuntary manslaughter for killing unarmed rider Oscar Grant.

The "In Support of Johannes Mehserle and Law Enforcement Officers" rally has 156 confirmed guests on its Facebook page. Our calls to Mehserle's lawyer, Mike Rains, have not yet been returned: We're wondering what he and his client think about all of this.

Naturally, a counter-protest has been organized (also via the Internet). And, caught in the middle, is Walnut Creek's police force, which is bringing in extra personnel just in case things get out of hand.

Here's a prediction: Expect light attendance from both pro- and anti-Mehserle forces. Expect lots of cops. And lots of media.
