Pit Bulls Maul 2-year-Old to Death; Grandpa Steven Hayashi Tells Media He's Sorry

• I agree with Hayashi. Who was watching that little two year old? I would be more weary of what that two year old's parents were doing at the time of this attack? Two year olds need to be watch no matter where they are! Pit Bulls have taken the "Poop" end of this deal. The media always finds something negative to say about almost everything. If people would actually do some research before opening their mouths, they would learn that the breed of the pit bull passes the American Temperament Test Society with an whopping 86%! That's flying colors if you ask me. This 86% is above the Airdale Terrier, the Bichon Frise, the Lhasa Opso, Shit Tzu, Basenji, Border Collie, Beagle, Dachund, English Setter, Shar-Pai, Pomeranian, Shnauzer, Chihuahua, and the Toy Poodle. Many of these other breeds that score below average on behavioral tests, not to mention WELL below the pit bull, are often highly desired family pets! So, before people judge this breed, they should get to know them. I own two pit bulls. I also have three children and one on the way. I would never leave my children alone with my dogs. But, it's not because they're pit bulls. It's simply because they're dogs. I've always rooted for the pit bull- the "under dog". And will continue to do so. There ARE pit bulls out there (amongst other breeds) that ARE, in fact, vicious, temperamental, territorial, and aggressive. However, when you find these dogs, you must also be aware of their surroundings. Are they tied up to a tree? Are they well socialized? Do their owners treat them will? The answer to these questions is often, "no." "Punish the deed, not the breed!"

• You are playing with "fire" when you own dogs like a pitpull, let alone five pitbulls. I don't care how well trained they are as something could trigger them to go wild and act in a vicious way. Dog lovers blame the media for putting a bad rep on pitbulls, but I can't see a chihuahua mauling a human being. Stop the blame game and have an honest look at dogs like pitbulls as they should be banned as household pets.

• Dogs are dogs. People need to understand that dogs themselves are not born bad. They are not trained properly, or abused, or left to be dogs. A 2-year old wandering into a garage with a pack of dogs was basically like ringing the dinner bell. The blame should not be the person who had the dogs, nor the dogs. The questions raised should be: Why wasn't anyone watching the child? Anyone bother to find out why the child was left unsupervised to wander? I have dogs.. but I would not let a child alone with my small dogs, even if they are not pit bulls and even if they are trained. I can't even trust many adults with my dogs, why would I assume that a child is going to be fine to wander around amongst animals? The only thing this man is guilty of is loving animals and not having those dogs in crates, but I think there should be equal responsibility on the people who were supposed to keep an eye on that child. My brother-in-law has two pits, and they're good dogs. He doesn't trust children near his dogs, because dogs are still animals. So, the person who was watching the child should also feel a little guilty.

• Everyone wants a pitbull, how could he not give them away unless he bred them for money.

• The fact is there are hundreds and thousands of dog killings and attacks across the united states and the media only picks up the storys done by pit bulls. You should never own five dogs at a time in city limits. I dont think any breed should be band i think the law should requier all pet owners to have training for their animals and take there animals to vets monthly like they are supost to a vet can spot change in behavor.

• Pit bulls should be outlawed or owners shall be charged with using deadly weapon. There are so many tragic incidents with pit bulls which could be prevented.

• Dogs ARE dogs. I wouldn't leave a child around many adults, let alone ill-trained, unsupervised and unsocialized dogs. I love my dogs but I still realize that they are animals. I don't trust most people, why would I "trust" an animal to do anything besides behave like one?
