Man on Tracks at Glen Park BART

BART is experiencing delays due to an apparently unstable man running onto the tracks at Glen Park Station.

"The situation is, one of our community service officers observed someone getting onto the tracks at Glen Park Station and run into the tunnel toward Balboa Park," said BART spokesman Jim Allison. This occurred at roughly 8:58 a.m.

Power has been cut between Glen Park and Balboa park, and BART police have formed search teams to inspect the tracks and find the man. Service continues between Daly City and the Peninsula and 24th Street and the rest of the system. But airport- or Peninsula-bound trains are being turned back at 24th Street.

More as we know more.

Update, 9:50 a.m.:
The search is still ongoing for the man and service is still suspended between Glen Park and Balboa Park

Update, 9:52 a.m.: Word travels fast -- service is restored between those two stations. No word on the man who ran into the train tunnel.

Update, 10:05 a.m.:
The man who ran into the train tunnel at Glen Park has escaped. BART spokesman Jim Allison believes the man reached Balboa Park, some two miles away, and just kept going. In doing so, he may have evaded police in the dark or just ran two miles more rapidly than police could be deployed on the other end of the tunnel. It is "doubtful" that he remains in the tunnel.
