The San Francisco Medical Examiner's office identified the person who yesterday wandered onto the BART tracks at Embarcadero in an apparent suicide attempt. Sadly, the attempt was successful -- Daevonn Hartley, a 16-year-old male Fremont resident, died of his wounds at 7 p.m. last night at San Francisco General Hospital.

Witnesses yesterday saw Hartley move onto the tracks "of his own accord," at around 2:30 p.m. said BART spokesman Jim Allison. Hartley was hit by a train and pinned beneath, requiring an extensive rescue effort and triggering long delays.

It was a day of drama and delays for BART. Prior to Hartley's sad demise, police chased a "wanted parolee" onto the tracks at Civic Center and captured him.
