For Cain, it a matter of jealousy. His brother Abel had offered God some sweet-ass livestock and topped Cain's own crop offering. He had to go.

In Bernal Heights last week, something similar happened. A 47-year-old man savagely beat his own 51-year-old brother with a metal pipe, according to police. The incident occurred Wednesday on the 200 block of Crescent street at around 4:15 p.m.

View Larger Map After the beating, the alleged assailant fled the scene, leaving his older brother bleeding from various injuries.  Big brother was then taken to San Francisco General Hospital with serious injuries, but real life is not usually as dramatic as the bible. He didn't die.

So what was it exactly that turned one brother on another? Jealousy? Betrayal? A woman? Captain Louis Cassanego filled us in. "It started when the victim called the suspect some names," he said.
