Alan May ran, but he couldn't hide in San Francisco.

The 45-year-old, wanted by the U.S. Secret Service for defrauding folks of more than $7 million in an oil and gas scheme, had traveled here from Cypress, Texas and taken on multiple identities.

He rented an expensive apartment and was throwing a lot of money around, according to Johnny Sanford, a public affairs officer with the United States Marshals Service stationed in the Northern District of California. May's aliases included Mark Mangum, Mark Hanson, Brian Peirce, and Justin Gore.

May apparently came nowhere near pulling a Richard Kimble. The United States Marshals Service apprehended him June 4 at a hotel near Mason and O'Farrell Streets. He was incarcerated at the Alameda County Jail, and today appeared before a U.S. Magistrate judge. He is likely awaiting extradition to the Dallas-Forth Worth area, Sanford said.
