Pelosi's Visit: Speaker Speaks Softly, Plugs Children, Walks Out Fast

​Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi provided we miserable media wretches a small spark of excitement Monday morning when she visited San Francisco City Hall for a rare visit. Her focus: "Our children, our children, our children."

In between counting Democratic votes in Congress and providing hate fodder for the more twisted among us, Pelosi hasn't forgotten the core of any politician's job: constituent services. Thus she was out on the steps of City Hall on the longest day of the year with children from various (and disappearing) youth activity groups for a few quick words ... and little else.

Pelosi repeated the mantra "Our children, our children, our children" several times during her brief remarks, which lasted roughly three minutes. She was surrounded by participants in the Rec and Park Department's new summer programs, as well as volunteers and participants in the vaunted Western Addition community endeavor Mo'Magic.

Shortly after dubbing East Bay Congressman and No Child Left Behind author George Miller "a hero in Congress ... nobody has done more for our children, our children, our children than the chairman of [House Committee on] Education [and Labor] ... George Miller, George Miller, George Miller," Pelosi exited stage center and disappeared back into City Hall. The Snitch gave chase, but passed back through security in time to see Pelosi and her entourage cram into an elevator and vanish again to a basement exit.

Pelosi's San Francisco staffers told The Snitch that she has a busy day with multiple conference calls, but did not spend time visiting with Mayor Gavin Newsom (who is back from China) or anyone else. Pelosi did namedrop Board of Education president and District 6 supervisorial candidate Jane Kim before childrening Miller, so that's nice for Kim.

Other than that? We don't have much for you. Pelosi's pantsuit was purple, she had a security guard who vaguely resembles Stringer Bell, and she has more important things to worry about than City Hall.
