Mormons to Pay Fine for Prop. 8 Financing Violations

According to the state's Fair Political Practices Commission, the Mormon Church will pay $5,539 (or 15 percent of the amount not properly accounted for) as a penalty for not reporting late, non-cash contributions -- such as campaign staffers' labor expenses -- to the Yes on 8 campaign.
The Commission launched an investigation into reporting irregularities after a complaint by gay-rights activist Fred Karger of Californians Against Hate.
Here's what the Mormon Church had to say about the fine in a statement:
All institutional contributions made by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to the ProtectMarriage Coalition were reported to the appropriate authorities in California. In the last two weeks leading up to the election, the Church mistakenly overlooked the daily reporting requirement for non-monetary contributions and instead reported those contributions together in a later filing. The Church appreciates the fairness and consideration with which the Fair Political Practices Commission has addressed this oversight. Claims that the Church misrepresented its contributions to the ProtectMarriage Coalition are false.
