Hyman Taylor -- a former center for the University of California San Francisco basketball team -- was shot and killed last night in an IKEA parking lot in Emeryville. The 6-foot-9, 245-pounder from Oakland was 23 years old.

Another 27-year-old man who police are not yet identifying was also wounded by the gunshots, fired around 7:35 p.m. outside of the store at 4400 Shellmound St. Investigators on the case have not yet slept, according to Oakland Police spokeswoman Holly Joshi, but they have no yet made any arrests or determined a motive.

Taylor grew up in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and played basketball for coach Buddy Pressley at Cardinal Gibbons High School. Pressley told the Chron that Taylor was one of the most well-liked kids at school, and that he loved Taylor like a son.

Taylor's stats can be found on ESPN, and a collection of photos of Taylor and friends are posted on his Facebook page.
